The Met x Eichholtz presents the Floor Lamp Thomas, drawing inspiration from the intricate Chinese fretwork designs popularized in 18th-century England.

With a matte-black finish and a handmade linen-mix shade from the Netherlands, this lamp exudes historical elegance and sophistication. Illuminate your space with this timeless piece that seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern aesthetics.

HISTORIC PROVENANCE

The Floor Lamp Thomas is an homage to the intricate Chinese fretwork that first appeared in England in the early 18th century. By the midcentury, it became a hallmark of elegant furniture, as seen in Thomas Chippendale’s (British, 1718–1779) influential 1754 publication, Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director. The model for the pair of mahogany candlestands (1755–60) that inspired this lamp was featured in the first edition of Chippendale’s book.
