HISTORIC PROVENANCE
Our Bust of Julius Caesar is inspired by a sculpture (ca. 1512–14) of the Roman leader by Andrea di Pietro di Marco Ferruci’s (Italian, 1465–1526). The original, now in The Met collection, boasts the ornate a l’antica style fashionable in Florentine sculpture during the 15th and early 16th centuries. The naturalistic face and intricate detailing showcase Ferruci’s remarkable skill. Our interpretation of the Museum’s bust honors the legacy of classical antiquity and Renaissance sculpture.
